People often wonder about the particulars involved in flameproofing a building. They often incorrectly assume that it is a lengthy, complex process. One of the questions we are often asked is “What is involved in applying a fire retardant?” Business owners often want to understand how the process works occurs as well as the timing that it takes. Applying fire repellent spray is a fairly simple procedure that usually takes just one day to implement.
When Certified Flameproofing comes to an establishment, we do not flameproof the building itself, but we apply flame resistant spray to items inside the establishment. In the event that a fire begins inside the building, the application of fire resistant products to these materials will help prevent or slow the spread of fire. We treat both fabrics and wood with a water-based, FDNY- approved flame retardant by using either a hand-pumped or electric sprayer. We usually do this on off hours when customers are not there. We prepare the area by moving various items from our spray area and by placing disposable plastic on the floor, walls and other areas, as needed. Typically, wood requires more flame retardant than fabric. We use a fire proofing spray that meets the requirements for both wood and fabric, both of which can be treated either before or after installation. However, if a customer desires both sides of the wood to be treated with the flame retardant spray, this needs to occur before installation.
While applying fire retardant is a relatively quick and uncomplicated process, its importance cannot be emphasized enough. Taking these measures is essential when it comes to preventing or slowing an unfortunate fire that might occur. Everything that we flameproof is guaranteed effective, and we will take great care to protect everything else that is not being treated. Certified Flameproofing is happy to help with all of your flameproofing needs.
